THE
HISTORY :
Capo d'Orlando is an important agrarian and commercial
centre, with an old historical and legendary origin;
infact it seems that the name of the promontory where
the town rises derives from the one of a Carlo Magno
officer. This officer, Orlando, was the founder of
the fortress. The medioeval ruins of the castle keep
some part of the town walls dated 1598. Moreover there
is an important cultural centre, the Famiglia Piccolo
Foundation, in the house-museum of the fomous Sicilian
poet.
Between Capo dOrlando and S.Agata di Militello you
can find the convent of Fragalà ruins, next
to Frazzanò. The convent is placed on a height
with a wonderful view on the Fitalia river Valley.
It's an example of religious architecture made during
Normann occupation.
From Longi, it's possible to reach the start place
of an exciting trekking walk to visit a sort of wild
canyon (to find out more informations yuo can contact
the Italian Alpino Club section of Messina), and the
Crasto rocks (1315 mt.), dolomitic formations, where
some rare bird of pray live.
